Description

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative phenomenon attacking the cartilaginous aspect of the joints. Although this degeneration is only the fact of age, it can cause pain in some.

Osteoarthritis is a very frequent phenomenon in the population, especially among people over 50 years of age. It can start anywhere from 20 to 30 years. Men and women are affected in equal proportions.

Presentation of osteoarthritis

  • Joint stiffness
  • Decreased movements
  • Reduced flexibility
  • Noises in the joints

Places of predilection

  • Spine
  • Knees and hips (body weight)

Treatment 

  • Articular manipulations and soft tissue work (Active Release Techniques and Graston) to improve mobility and reduce scar tissue
  • Kinésio taping.
  • Stretching exercises
  • Strengthening exercises
  • Heat (morning stiffness)
  • Modification of activities that are associated with pain
  • Drugs (anti-inflammatory) as needed
  • Cortisone injections as needed
  • Very rare surgical interventions
